My name is María Ángeles González López, but please, call me María. I am a native Spanish speaking tutor with more than 15 years of international teaching experience. I would love to teach you too, get in touch and start learning the second most spoken native language globally.
I have taught Spanish to students from all around the world: Ireland, the UK, the USA, the Philippines, France, Poland, Greece, Italy, India, China, Japan and more. I also speak several foreign languages: English, Greek, French and a bit of German, which allows me to understand your way of processing the language and provide you with the tools to excel in Spanish.
Teaching and languages are my passions and I love nothing more than seeing my students grow in confidence as they come to grips with the grammar and nuances of the Spanish language.
My teaching career started in 2006, while I was a student at the University of Granada, in Spain, where I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Translation and Interpreting. This is when I realised that teaching was my passion.
As soon as I finished my degree, I started a PhD program in Linguistics and Language Learning. While I was researching for my thesis in Spanish learning, I moved to Greece and I started working full time as a teacher.
In order to be a more complete and better teacher, I became an official examiner by the Instituto Cervantes, the only institution that issues Spanish diplomas recognised all over the world.
My studies and my background as a translator allowed me to compare languages and to understand the logic behind the linguistic phenomena. This has proved crucial for achieving an effective learning experience and creating a personal learning experience for each one of my students.
For many years I taught in Greece, where I started out tutoring students in conversational Spanish, but soon I became a Spanish teacher. A few years later, I continued working as a Spanish Teacher in a different school, but also was a temporary Languages School Director to cover a maternity leave. The more I taught, the more I knew that I wanted to help as many people as possible excel at their Spanish language goals.
My students learn for different reasons. For some, they need Spanish for Specific Purposes such as for business or for travel. For others, they learn for fun or for their studies. Whatever the purpose of their learning, I always personalise the lessons to ensure that I meet each student’s specific needs.
After many years teaching in Greece, I moved to teach in Dublin, Ireland, where I provided Spanish lessons for the staff of international and multinational companies and organisations including Google, Inditex, Accenture, the European Commission [Directorate F], Eurofound, CRH, QBE…
Since the start of my teaching career, more than 15 years ago, I have taught students of all ages and backgrounds. I have taught all levels of language from absolute beginners to advanced students. I have provided General Spanish Lessons, Spanish For Specific Purposes and prepared my students for almost any Spanish exam or diploma that you might think of. My experience has seen me teach in schools, foreign language centres, businesses, large groups and one-to-one lessons.

As a certified DELE examiner by the Instituto Cervantes, I prepare students for Spanish examinations of different levels. As a qualified examiner, I have unique insights that help my students fine-tune the Spanish skills in preparation for their various exams. If you are preparing for any kind of Spanish exams, get in touch to find out how I can help you prepare.
Working with students from very diverse backgrounds, I have realised that each one of us learns differently. There is not a magic formula that suits everyone. Therefore, I learned to be very flexible in my approach and to adapt the lesson to the specific needs of every student while making sure the lessons are enjoyable too.
Since 2015, I have been teaching remotely to be able to reach more students around the world. Learning remotely makes learning easier for my students because it gives them the flexibility to fit the lessons into their lifestyle, rather than travelling to and from a school or college to attend lessons.
For one to one Spanish lessons you can book online or contact me directly to organise a group lesson.
