¡Hola!
My name is María Ángeles González López, but please, call me María.
I am a native Spanish speaking tutor with more than 15 years of international teaching experience. I have taught Spanish to students from Ireland, the UK, the USA, the Phillippines, France, Poland, Greece, Italy, India, China, Japan and more.
Teaching and languages are my passions and I love nothing more than seeing my students grow in confidence as they come to grips with the grammar and nuances of the Spanish language. I would love to teach you too, get in touch if you have any questions.
My Qualifications
My teaching career started many years ago, while I was studying at the Universidad de Granada (the University of Granada in Spain) where I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Translation and Interpreting.
As soon as I finished my degree, I started a PhD program in Linguistics and Language Learning. While I was researching for my thesis in Spanish learning, I started working full time as a teacher. This is when I realised that teaching was my passion.
My Teaching Experience
My studies and my background as a translator allowed me to compare languages and to understand the logic behind the linguistic phenomena. This has proved crucial for achieving an effective learning experience and creating a personal learning experience for each of my students.
For many years I taught in Greece, where I started out tutoring students in conversational Spanish. I then went on to become a group tutor covering grammar and advanced language skills and also became temporary School Director. The more I taught, the more I knew that I wanted to help as many people as possible excel at their Spanish language goals.
My students learn for different reasons. For some, they need Spanish for specific purposes such as for business or for travel. For others, they learn for fun or for their studies. Whatever the purpose of their learning, I always personalise the lessons to ensure that I meet each student’s specific needs.
After many years teaching in Greece, I moved to teach in Dublin, Ireland, where I provided Spanish lessons for the staff of international and multinational companies and organisations including Google, Inditex, Accenture, Eurofound, the European Commission [Directorate F], CRH, QBE…
Since the start of my teaching career, 15 years ago, I have taught students of all ages and experiences. I have taught all levels of language ability from absolute beginners to advanced students preparing for exams. My experience has seen me teach in schools, foreign language centres, businesses, large groups and one-to-one lessons.

As a certified DELE examiner by the Instituto Cervantes, I prepare students for Spanish examinations of different levels. As a qualified examiner, I have unique insights that help my students fine-tune the Spanish skills in preparation for their exams. Spanish Lessons With Maria
Working with students from such diverse backgrounds, I have realised that each one of us learns differently. There is not a magic formula that suits everyone. Therefore, I learned to be very flexible in my approach and to adapt the lesson to the specific needs of every student while making sure the lessons are enjoyable too.
For the last five years, I have taught remotely to be able to reach more students around the world. Learning remotely makes learning easier for my students because it gives them the flexibility to fit the lessons into their lifestyle, rather than travelling to and from a school or college to attend lessons.
